After starting the season with victories over Virginia Tech and Louisville, The Citadel baseball team suffered a letdown Sunday with a 10-2 loss to West Virginia at Riley Park.
The Bulldogs closed the Homewood Suites Tournament presented by Charleston Crab House with a 2-1 record, and play at USC Upstate on Tuesday.
West Virginia (1-2) roughed up nine Citadel pitchers for 18 hits, and the Bulldogs committed three errors. Citadel starter Austin Livingston (0-1) lasted 4 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits.
The Citadel managed eight hits, with two each from Hughston Armstrong, Calvin Orth and Drew Dekerlegand. Mountaineers starter John Means (1-0) earned the win, allowing five hits and one run over six innings.
Ryan McBroom and Cameron O'Brien hit home runs for West Virginia, and McBroom drove in three runs. Centerfielder Bobby Boyd was 3 of 6 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and second baseman Billy Fleming was 4 of 5.
