Citadel's Walker named SoCon Wrestler of the Week
For the second straight week, a Citadel wrestler earned Southern Conference wrestler of the week honors as Aaron Walker was chosen for the award for all competition from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4.
Last week, Turtogtokh Luvsandorj received the honor for the fourth time in his career and first time this season.
Walker went 3-0 on the week, taking the 157-pound title and being named the most outstanding wrestler at the All-Academy Championships in New London, Conn., on Saturday.
Walker, a redshirt freshman, opened his tournament with a pin of Michael Palomba of Coast Guard in 4:36. The Judson, Texas, native followed that up with an 11-5 win over Air Force's Joshua Kreimier and added a 2-1 win over Navy's Bobby Burg in the title tilt.
The trio of wins extended Walker's winning streak to 10 matches and moved his season record to 22-7. Walker is 8-0 in dual matches this season and 3-0 against SoCon competition.

The Citadel was picked to finish second in the 2014 Southern Conference baseball race by the coaches and media.
The Bulldogs also placed seven players on the preseason all-conference team, including first-team selections Hughston Armstrong, Bo Thompson and Skylar Hunter. Chosen to the second team were Calvin Orth, Mason Davis, Johnathan Stokes and Tyler Griffin.
Defending regular season champion Western Carolina was the only school ahead of the Bulldogs in both polls. The Catamounts received seven first-place votes and 78 points from the coaches compared to three firsts and 75 points for The Citadel.
In the media poll, Western was picked first on 13 ballots and accumulated 167 points, with the Bulldogs getting two of the remaining five first-place votes and 149 points.
Ben Dupree, Brandon McCladdie and Walker Smith headlined the award winners at The Citadel's annual football banquet held Thursday night at the Holliday Alumni Center.
Dupree was named the team's offensive player of the year after etching his name in The Citadel's rushing record book in virtually every category as the versatile triple option quarterback accumulated 2,679 yards through four seasons, the sixth-most in program history.
McCladdie had another huge year at cornerback for the Bulldogs as the senior accumulated 58 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss en route to the team's defensive player of the year award.
Smith earned this year's special teams player of the year award. The three-year letter-winner played in all 12 games, including his first career start against FBS opponent Old Dominion in Week 4.
In that game Smith blocked a second quarter punt which resulted in a Bulldog touchdown.
