FLORENCE -- A South Carolina man has pleaded guilty to making and cashing counterfeit checks.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said Friday 31-year-old Keyone Shanard Green of Quinby pleaded guilty in federal court in Florence to manufacture and possession of counterfeit securities.
Prosecutors say Green used a computer program to create counterfeit checks that looked like they had been issued by various businesses. Authorities say he cashed some of the checks and shared others with roommates and friends in December 2008 and January 2009.
Green and the other people then cashed the checks at various businesses in Florence.
Green faces up to 10 years in prison and fines of $250,000 when he is sentenced.
