Authorities are investigating after a man was gunned down inside a Walterboro home on Thursday.
Walterboro police responded to 203 Chaplin St. around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Maj. Ken Dasen said.
A 911 caller had reported that he heard three shots fired while inside the home. He ran from the scene to call authorities, Dasen said.
When police arrived at the scene they found a man lying in the doorway unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Dasen identified the man as 65-year-old James Mitchell of Walterboro.
The caller was transported to City Hall and questioned by investigators, Dasen said. State Law Enforcement Division agents are handling the investigation.
No suspects have been identified in the fatal shooting, Dasen said.
