TRAVELERS REST -- The owners of an Upstate towing company are accused of price gouging during a recent winter storm that brought snow and ice to the area.
WYFF-TV reports that warrants show Melissa and Ricky West are charged with price gouging during an emergency.
The couple owns Countrywide Towing in Travelers Rest. Authorities say they overcharged two people who needed towing Jan. 29 during a state of emergency issued by Gov. Nikki Haley.
Authorities say one woman was charged more than $1,100. Another person was charged nearly $900.
Warrants say standard prices in that area for an accident tow are around $230.
