Charleston County sheriff's deputies are investigating a man's failed attempt to rob a Dollar General story in Hollywood Wednesday night.
Sheriff's deputies responded around 8:46 p.m. to the Dollar General store at 6143 U.S. Highway 17, Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson said.
The store's employees told deputies they were closing up for the night when an a man with a gun walked up and banged on the locked front door.
The man tried to get the employees to open the door. Instead, they called 911, Watson said.
The man ran from the scene before authorities arrived.
According to Watson, the suspect is described as a black man, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 6 inches tall with a slender build. The man wore a black hoodie, dark pants and black gloves.
Authorities used a K-9 unit to search for the man but they did not locate him Wednesday night.
The incident remains under investigation, Watson said.
