GOOSE CREEK - The National Signing Day ceremony at Goose Creek ended with a glimpse into the future.
Goose Creek coach Chuck Reedy confirmed Wednesday that the University of South Carolina offered sophomore defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw a scholarship. Kinlaw is a 6-7, 265-pounder who had 40 tackles, two sacks and three pass deflections for the Gators last season.
"It will be his first offer," Reedy said. "It won't be his last."
The next few years will be a recruiting learning experience for Kinlaw, who is related to Gator running back Caleb Kinlaw, who signed with Wisconsin on Wednesday.
"I don't know much about the recruiting process," Kinlaw said. "I just don't want to get too hyped about it. I have a lot of potential and will have to work to live up to it."
Kinlaw is the No. 5-rated sophomore recruit in the state, according to MaxPreps. He doesn't plan to commit anytime soon.
