The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation recently awarded nearly $5 million in grants to organizations across the state, including several in the Lowcountry.
"The grants from our latest cycle bring the 2013 total amount of funds awarded to more than $7 million," said Harvey Galloway, the foundation's executive director, in a prepared statement.
The grant recipients include East Cooper Community Outreach, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, the Coastal Conservation League and Communities in Schools of the Charleston Area.
The awards benefit programs that serve uninsured and under-insured South Carolinians, a press release reports.
