David Maring, a retired 15th Circuit judge and resident of Georgetown who also served many terns in Charleston, has published a historical novel, "Winyah Bay."

Set along the Georgetown coast, the far-ranging book is "a mixture of history, romance and triumph of the human spirit." The anthropological tale incorporates the pre-Clovis population assimilated by the Winyahs, Viking contact with the area and Spanish-Native American interaction.

Maring is the author of "The Serpent's Seed, Carolina Justice and The Mullahs. He is at work on his second historical novel, "Jefferson Davis: Before He Wore Confederate Gray."

"Winyah Bay" costs $13.95 and can be purchased online at Amazon.com or ordered from bookstores.
