HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- There's no sponsor for this year's marsh tacky horse race, but the organizer says the race will be run March 29 on Daufuskie Island.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported Thursday the Carolina Marsh Tacky Association says it wants to bring the event back to Hilton Head Island with a new sponsor in 2015.
The marsh tacky horses are slightly smaller than standard horses and descended from Spanish horses brought to the region in the 1500s.
Association secretary Jackie McFadden says the 400-yard course is to be on the beach between Bloody Point and Melrose.
Previous races were held on neighboring Hilton Head. The race moved last year after two sponsors pulled out late in 2012.
