The American Red Cross is holding an emergency blood drive at the Medical University of South Carolina this afternoon to make up for thousands of lost donations due to the severe winter storms. "Since the beginning of January, winter storms and freezing temperatures have resulted in more than 600 American Red Cross blood drive cancellations and nearly 20,000 uncollected blood and platelet donations," the Red Cross reported in a prepared statement.
The blood drive will run from 1 to 5 p.m. in the MUSC Horseshoe off Ashley Avenue.
