GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A former Anderson County sheriff has been shot and wounded outside his Greenville apartment.
Gene Taylor says he was returning home Saturday night when two men approached him and demanded money.
Taylor says the men hit him on the head and then shot him in the leg when he refused and fought back. They left in a car.
Taylor spent the night in the hospital but is expected to recover. Authorities are still investigating.
Taylor was sheriff of Anderson County from 1989 until 2005.
