The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge remained closed today. All other local bridges were open. Officials were telling pedestrians and bikers to keep off the Ravenel Bridge, as well, because of the danger of icicles falling on them from the overhead cables.

Health care

The following Roper St. Francis facilities/services will resume 10 a.m. Thursday: outpatient procedures, elective surgeries, cancer infusion and radiation, Physician Partners practices, Roper St. Francis Express Care, Diagnostic centers and labs, Roper St. Francis Learning Center, all non-patient care departments and Roper Hospital Diagnostics. Roper Northwoods Diagnostics and ER is also closed. Patients who are unsure if their doctor's office is closed or whether a procedure needs to be rescheduled should call 402-CARE (2273). Any appointments or procedures that were canceled due to the weather will be rescheduled.

All MUSC clinics will be closed Wednesday, but the Medical University is open. Inpatient and emergency services remain fully operational. Elective surgeries and procedures will resume noon Thursday. Anyone with questions about appointments, procedures or visiting protocol should call 792-2300.

The Charleston Center will be closed Wednesday.

The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center outpatient clinics will reopen Friday. Patients should come to their scheduled appointments on Friday. Patients whose appointments were canceled will have to reschedule. Those who can't wait to reschedule are asked to call 1-888-878-6884. Inpatient and emergency services at the hospital will remain open.


Berkeley County School District schools will resume normal hours on Friday.

Charleston County School District schools will open on a two-hour delay on Friday. Buses will pick up children two hours later than usual. All half-day morning pre-k classes and morning Kaleidoscope programs are canceled Friday. Staff at the Bridge View Drive and Calhoun Street district offices should not report to work Thursday.

Dorchester County School District 2 will resume normal hours on Friday.

Dorchester County School District 4 schools are closed Wednesday. Schools will remain closed Thursday.

Ashley Hall will be closed Wednesday.

Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville will be closed Wednesday.

College of Charleston is canceling all classes, labs and activities Wednesday, including Main Campus, North Campus, Patriots Point, Grice Marine Lab and the Lowcountry Graduate Center. Almost all campus offices will be closed. All non-essential employees are excused from reporting to work.

The Citadel campus will be closed Wednesday.

Charleston Southern University canceled classes Wednesday and Thursday. Residence halls and dining facilities will continue to operate.

Charleston School of Law canceled classes Wednesday.

Medical University of South Carolina are canceled Wednesday. Classes will resume Thursday.

All Trident Technical College campuses and sites will be closed Wednesday.


Charleston International Airport officials urge travelers to check with their airline before heading to the airport.

As of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, 54 flights had been canceled, including 20 arrivals and 34 departures.

Departures to and arrivals from Charlotte, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Washington, Baltimore, Houston and Newark, N.J., were included in the cancellations.

Boeing South Carolina officials said first shift employees should not report to work Wednesday. Boeing employees who work the second shift should check the employee information hotline at least one hour before their scheduled work time, according to spokesperson Cheryl Harden.


Hanahan Municipal Court will be closed Wednesday; all cases scheduled that day will be heard Feb. 5.

The City of North Charleston offices will be closed Wednesday.

The S.C. Legislature will not meet this week. The session and all legislative meetings are canceled. The Legislature will resume its regular schedule next week.

The meeting scheduled on Thursday by Charleston County council member Joe Qualey regarding concerns on James Island was canceled. It will be rescheduled for a later date.

The Town of Mount Pleasant will close all offices Wednesday and will resume operations on Jan. 30. All Municipal Court events scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled for Thursday. The Recreation Department canceled all program activities for Wednesday.

City of Charleston offices will remain closed Wednesday. This does not apply to public safety employees or personnel needed to provide essential city services.

The special Planning Commission meeting concerning Cainhoy Plantation originally scheduled for Wednesday has been rescheduled for February 6 at 5 p.m. at 75 Calhoun.

Charleston County offices will be closed Wednesday and will open at noon Thursday. The late opening applies to library branches, the downtown Charleston judicial center and the Charleston Center. A County Council meeting remains set for 5 p.m. Thursday. Bond court will be in service Thursday morning. Recycling crews will resume work Thursday afternoon and be back on schedule by the weekend.

The City of Goose Creek offices, including the municipal court, will close at 3 p.m. They will reopen 8 a.m. Thursday. The Casey Community Center and the Goose Creek Community Center will reopen at noon Wednesday. The Goose Creek Department of Public Works will not pick up trash on Wednesday. Wednesday's and Thursday's routes will be run on Thursday.

Courts will be closed Wednesday in the following Lowcountry counties: Berkeley, Dorchester and Orangeburg.

Town of Summerville offices will most likely be closed on Wednesday.

Events & Services

The March of Dimes has canceled its kickoff for the 2014 March for Babies fundraising campaign that was scheduled for Wednesday at East Cooper Medical Center. It has been rescheduled for noon Feb. 11.

Charleston Water System's downtown and North Charleston offices will remain closed Wednesday. A decision regarding Thursday's business hours will be made on Wednesday.

Charleston County Sheriff's Office opened the work-camp section of the Cannon Detention Center Tuesday morning and it will remain open until 9 a.m. Friday for those in need of shelter from the cold. Individuals who need transportation to the shelter can dial 211 and request a law enforcement officer provide them a ride to the work-camp, according to Maj. Eric Watson.

Crisis Ministries and Palmetto House will open more areas of their facilities.

Antioch Community Ministries in Summerville has a small warming center with no beds.

Unity Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant will open at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday until 9 a.m.

Hibben United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant will provide shelter from 2 p.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday, from 8 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.

The Charleston County Employee Recognition ceremony scheduled for Wednesday is canceled.

Charleston County Public Library branches and book drops will be closed Wednesday.

The South Carolina Aquarium will be closed all day Wednesday.

The Gibbes Museum of Art will reopen noon Thursday.

Patriot's Point Naval & Maritime Museum will remain closed Wednesday. A delayed opening may also occur Thursday.

State Ports Authority announced this morning that Port of Charleston operators will be closed all day due to winter conditions.

The Lowcountry Food Bank will be closed Wednesday.

Charleston County parks will be closed Wednesday. The campground at James Island County Park will remain open for those staying on the site.?

Mount Pleasant Public Services canceled garbage and trash routes on Wednesday.
