The Farmbar was originally supposed to set down roots in January 2013, but the roving culinary project's first serious dalliance with permanence came last week, with the opening of The Farmbar Provisional.

Working without the benefit of a building, The Farmbar folks are serving baked goods, sandwiches, salads and the stray hot entree out of a shipping container parked in a field at 1600 Meeting St. The opening menu included duck fat hash, zucchini pickles and roast chicken.

The trailer is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, with lunchbox pick-up available every weekday from noon to 2 p.m.

"Honestly, we do things a little differently," founder Tara Derr Webb writes. "Confusing to most ... but that how it goes."
