Ex-journalist offers story collection
Author and former journalist Rafael Alvarez has published a new collection of short stories called "Tales From the Holy Land."
The book is $12.95, produced by Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing and available online at Amazon.com and other retailers.
Alvarez spent 20 years on the city desk of the Baltimore Sun and wrote for the first three seasons of HBO's "The Wire." Today, he is a full-time author and screewriter.
At 9 p.m. Feb. 12, he will read from his new book at Cory's Grilled Cheese in the James Island Shopping Center, 1739 Maybank Highway.
Ladson author pens fantasy adventure
Loretta M. Green-Warren, a poet and fiction writer and Ladson resident, has written a fantasy novel called "Chyna's Secret Place Adventure," published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises.

In the book, Chyna enters the world of her imagination to battle the evil Darco and save the secret place.
Newt Gingrich, wife in town for signing
Newt Gingrich will be signing copies of his book, "Breakout: Pioneers of the Future, Prison Guards of the Past, and the Epic Battle That Will Decide America's Fate" at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the West Ashley Barnes & Noble, 1812 Sam Rittenberg Blvd.
His wife Callista Gingrich will be signing her children's book, "Yankee Doodle Dandy."
