Mount Pleasant's Pane E Vino to be resurrected as a pizzeria
After closing Pane E Vino in Mount Pleasant in September, owner Alfredo Temelini has decided to reopen the restaurant with a different approach to Italian fare.
The restaurant at 201 Coleman Blvd. will reopen as Donato's Pizza, not to be confused with Donatos, the chain restaurant based in Gahanna, Ohio.
"Donato is my cousin from New York. He makes a great pizza," Temelini said.
The pizzeria should open in mid-March. Pane E Vino downtown at 17 Warren St. will continue operating as usual.
Yo Burrito, the popular Mexican eatery at 77 Wentworth St., is closing Jan. 31. The downtown Charleston eatery has been serving Mexican fare and its signature Mason jar margaritas on Wentworth Street for more than a decade.
The owners lost the property in a court-ordered foreclosure auction on Tuesday after several mortgage payments were missed.
Katharine Gottfried, who co-owns its sister restaurant, YoBo Cantina Fresca, said managers of Yo Burrito want to relocate the restaurant to another building downtown.
YoBo Cantina Fresca remains open at 10 Windermere Blvd. in West Ashley.
'Yeast' of the Cooper
A home brew supply store is heading into Mount Pleasant to fulfill an unmet demand, according to the shop owners.
Yeast Everything Homebrew will open 10 a.m. Saturday at 557 Belle Station Blvd. in the Belle Station shopping center off Long Point Road. Owner Peter Kinslow said he opened the East Cooper shop because there are few resources in the Lowcountry for those with a home-brewing hobby.
"The craft beer scene has exploded in Charleston over the last five years and it's only natural that the homebrewing hobbyist has grown as well," he said. "It's really the perfect time for a dedicated homebrew supply shop here in the Lowcountry."
Supplies and brewing ingredients such as hops, yeast and grains will be for sale, and the shop will also serve as a resource for those new to the home-brewing hobby.
All Natural Dips recently opened a temporary shop in Northwoods Mall, just in time to supply Super Bowl parties with gourmet chip-dips.
The pop-up will be open until Feb. 20 in the Dillard's-anchored wing of the North Charleston shopping center.
New Year's eats
The Old Village Post House will welcome guest chef Josh Walker of Xiao Bao Biscuit on Wednesday for a special dinner to celebrate the Lunar New Year, an ancient Chinese tradition. The five-course dinner at 6:30 p.m. is $70 per plate, not including tax and gratuity. The menu features dishes based on authentic cuisine from China, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan.
