Spring inventory spells cushy furniture deals
As January comes to a close, furniture retailers are ever eager to get rid of last season's designs.
But when it comes to furniture, "last season" is not code for "out of style." I've seen plenty of timeless pieces marked down by as much as $350 this week, and it's simply because retailers need to make extra room for the spring inventory that's rolling in.
So if you've been meaning to replace your couch, or you just want to spruce up a room with a new side table, this weekend is the time to do it. Here are some of the best sales I've seen so far.
GDC Home, a locally owned upscale home decor store, isn't the type to slash prices every other week. So when they have a sale, there are certainly good deals to be had. The store with locations in Mount Pleasant, West Ashley and Kiawah Island is having a 20 percent off sale on its entire stock today and Saturday only.
World Market has furniture marked down by up to 50 percent through next week. For example, a three-cushion couch is $350 right now, and that includes a free slip cover.
This week's ad also boasts a desk for $180, kitchen seating for as low as $79, and a Roland media stand for $300.
There are some pretty big deals at Big Lots this weekend, too. A five-piece table and chair set is marked down to $500, about $100 off its list price. Accent chairs, which are my new favorite home accessory, are about $90. The discount chain also has some affordable mattresses priced from about $250 for a queen.
If you want to get inspired before you invest in a new piece, you may want to check out the Home + Design show this weekend. It's at the Johnson Hagood Stadium from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7, but look for the $1 off coupon in Saturday and Sunday editions of The Post and Courier.
