Woman arrested after driving off with baby while mother inside Ladson drugstore

A woman who left her baby in a car with a friend while she went into a Ladson drugstore Wednesday afternoon came back out to find that the friend had driven off with the car and the baby.

The 8-day-old baby boy was located a couple hours later, and April Michelle Hernandez Del-Rio, 32, was charged with kidnapping, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.

The abduction was reported about 4 p.m. at the CVS at Ladson Road and U.S. Highway 78. A deputy pulled over a white Pontiac Bonneville based on the mother's description, and the woman and baby were inside.

A motive for the abuction was not given Wednesday. A bond hearing for Del-Rio is set for 2 p.m. Thursday.
