Somebody broke out a car window in downtown Charleston Sunday night to steal a brown paper bag that turned out to contain $5 worth of laundry stain remover and trash bags, according to Charleston police.
The suspect was caught on camera, and police are asking for help identifying him.
The car was parked at State and Chalmers streets, according to the incident report. A man told police he was sitting in his living room about 7:25 p.m. when he heard a noise outside and saw that the front passenger window of a maroon PT Cruiser was smashed.
The vehicle's owner told police she had left a brown paper bag with some $2.50 Spray and Wash laundry stain remover and a $2.50 box of trash bags on the seat, and they were missing.
The suspect is described as a heavy-set black man. Anyone who recognizes him or has any information about the crime can leave a tip at Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
