North Charleston police have charged a man with unlawful carrying of a firearm after finding him with a gunshot wound in his foot Monday night.
Shortly before 7 p.m., officers responded to the area of Comstock Avenue and Davis Street to investigate reports of a man being shot. They found the man had been shot between his toes, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
The man told police he was shot by an unknown gunman, Pryor said. Investigators, however, were told by several people that the man was seen playing with a gun and that it went off, he said.
The man, who was not identified, later admitted to police he accidentally shot himself, Pryor said. Police recovered the gun and the man is being charged with unlawful carrying of a firearm.
He was transported to a hospital, Pryor said.
