Tricounty Family Ministries opens Life Center on Reynolds Avenue

Tricounty Family Ministries, a faith-based nonprofit, will hold a grand opening Tuesday for its renovated Life Center in an economically depressed area of North Charleston.

The event begins at 11 a.m. at the center at 1914 Reynolds Ave. North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey will cut the ribbon at noon.

The building has been remodeled to include a counseling center, office, computer room, community room and chapel. Its residential apartment, which houses homeless families, also was updated.

Tricounty Family Ministries is an ecumenical ministry that provides food, clothing, medical care, counseling, transportation, shelter, financial assistance and other services to tri-county residents in need.

It is opening the center in partnership with Trident Literacy Association, which provides GED assistance, along with basic education in reading, writing and math. The ministry also has partnered with SC Works, which provides resume and job-hunt help.

The Life Center is an extension of the ministry’s main center on Rivers Avenue in the Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood.

“We’re so excited about Tuesday, especially since the renovations are mostly the result of in-kind donations of labor, materials and lots of prayer. This process has been ongoing for 15 years, but we did it,” said Sue Hanshaw, CEO of Tricounty Family Ministries.
