COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Republican activist Sheri Few is announcing she’s running for South Carolina schools superintendent.
Few says that she will declare her candidacy Friday outside the state Department of Education’s offices. Her platform involves blocking education standards known as Common Core.
Few was the state campaign director for U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann during the Minnesota Republican’s 2012 presidential bid. Few previously ran a nonprofit that advocated abstinence-only education in public schools.
She is the second Republican to officially jump into the superintendent’s race after GOP incumbent Mick Zais announced last month he wouldn’t seek re-election. State Rep. Andy Patrick of Hilton Head Island announced his bid Wednesday.
Few ran unsuccessfully in 2006, 2008 and 2010 for a seat in the South Carolina House representing a suburban Columbia district.
