A 19-year-old man was arrested today as part of an ongoing investigation into the shooting death of a woman during a Johns Island home invasion, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Carlton L. Solomon of Langston Drive on Johns Island is charged with murder, kidnapping and possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He will have a bond hearing at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Donetta Heyward died as a result of the shooting.
The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 11 when deputies were dispatched to 3786 Greenland Road in response to a report of a home invasion and shooting.
The deputies were met by a male victim who stated that three black males with guns kicked-in the back door to the residence and assaulted him and a female while asking “Where is the money?”
One suspect struck the male victim in the head. The other suspects took the female victim outside, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The unidentified male victim told investigators that he heard gunshots outside. A few seconds later, the female victim entered the residence and told him that she had been wounded, officials said.
Shortly thereafter, the suspects fled the scene. The female victim was transported to the Medical University where she later died. The male victim was treated for his head injuries and released.
