Somebody drove up on the sidewalk, hit a 6-year-old student walking to school in North Charleston Wednesday morning and kept driving, according to the Highway Patrol.
The child was walking on the sidewalk in the Windsor Hill subdivision about 6:50 a.m. when a silver SUV or minivan hit the child and left the scene, according to the Highway Patrol.
The child, a student at Windsor Hill Elementary School, remained at Medical University Hospital Wednesday night under observation, District 2 spokesman Pat Raynor said.
The Highway Patrol is investigating.
