Charleston police on Monday arrested a man accused of firing off two rounds while arguing with his children’s mother and another female.
Gavin Brown, 30, of Ashley River Road is charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, first-degree assault and battery, failure to pay child support, two counts of neglect of a child and discharging a firearm within city limits, Charleston County jail records show.
Brown was named in a shooting shortly after midnight Monday at an apartment on Ashley River Road, according to an incident report.
A 41-year-old woman who lives at the apartment told police that Brown came to her home to pick up a few items early Monday. Brown shares two young daughters with the woman, police said.
While at the home, Brown got into an argument with the woman’s older daughter, the report said. The daughter feared for her safety and grabbed a knife to get Brown to leave, police said.
When Brown saw the knife, the report said, he said, “Y’all trying to stab me,” and “I feel threatened! I feel threatened!”
Brown then pulled a gun from his pocket and fired two shots toward the ceiling, police said. He ran from the home shortly after.
Brown’s two children with the woman were in their bedroom, directly behind the living room wall and one bullet’s point of entry. The other point was in the living room ceiling. The children were not wounded during the shooting, according to the report.
Brown was arrested and held at the Charleston County jail in lieu of a $200,000 bail, jail records show.
