Driver charged after hitting scooter on Remount Road

A driver was charged after hitting a person crossing Remount Road on a scooter Monday afternoon.

A van hit the scooter about 4:30 p.m. near Saxon Street, North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. The person on the scooter was taken to a hospital with a non life-threatening injury.

The driver, Juan Villaseca Mateos, 29, of Saxon Street was arrested at the scene and charged with first-offense driving under suspension, failure to yield right of way and failure to surrender a suspended tag, Pryor said.
