ABBEVILLE, S.C. -- A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the death of an Abbeville County child.
Shawn White was sentenced Thursday after a jury found him guilty of homicide by child abuse.
Officials say 10-month-old Emily Labounty died from head injuries in August 2012. Officers were called to the girl's home after getting a call about a baby who was throwing up and having trouble breathing.
Emily was taken to a hospital but died after she was taken off life support.
Prosecutors say White was the live-in boyfriend of Emily's mother.
