WASHINGTON - Jay Gruden says he doesn't care about the Washington Redskins' tumultuous past, and he has built a "genuine" trust with franchise player Robert Griffin III.
Gruden was introduced Thursday as coach of the Redskins. He signed a five-year deal Wednesday night as the successor to Mike Shanahan, who was fired last week after a 3-13 season.
Gruden, 46, who has spent the last three seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals, says he intends to call the plays himself, and he has yet to decide whether to keep any of the assistants from Shanahan's staff.
Gruden praised Griffin's talent, but added: "He's got to understand that I expect a lot from the starting quarterback."
Chicago Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery is headed to his first Pro Bowl.
The NFL announced Thursday that the former South Carolina standout will replace injured Detroit star Calvin Johnson, a reward for a breakout season in his second year in the league.
Jeffery's 1,421 yards receiving this season ranked second in franchise history and his 89 receptions were sixth most.

Gruden was hired as the Redskins' head coach Thursday.
Jackson has been the offensive coordinator for the Redskins, Falcons and Raiders. He was Oakland's head coach in 2011 and pushed for the trade that sent Carson Palmer from the Bengals to the Raiders.
