LEXINGTON, Ky. - A body has been found in a storage unit in Lexington.
Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn told media that his office was called to the Econo-Self Storage on Wednesday to help investigate. He says the body was taken to Frankfort for an autopsy that will be performed Thursday.
"Obviously we are aware that someone has concealed another person's death because we believe that these are humans remains that were found in a storage unit," Ginn said. "I won't comment on the cause or manner of death because I wasn't able to examine the individual very well in order to preserve a lot of evidence."
Lexington Police Lt. Eric Lowe said officers were called to the facility after a federal agency received a tip. He declined to identify the agency.
Investigators remained tight-lipped about the investigation, but said they are trying to identify the body, determine how long it has been in the storage unit and how the person died.
Ginn said that would take some time.
"I don't know when we are going to be able to identify the individual but we will try to do that as soon as possible."
