MUSC's online nursing degree program is one of the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual ranking of online degree programs.
The Medical University of South Carolina's program was ranked No. 2, behind only St. Xavier University in Chicago. But MUSC was the top-ranked school among those that offer a doctorate of nursing online.
"This impressive rating reflects our College of Nursing's ongoing pursuit for the highest quality in our educational offerings," Gail Stuart, dean of the nursing program, said in a statement. "We are especially pleased that we are the top-ranked school to offer the doctor of nursing degree in an online format. We believe that this recognition by U.S. News & World Report reflects our commitment to offering exceptional graduate education to nurses in an 'anytime, anywhere' format."
Charleston Southern University was included among the best online bachelor's degree programs, at No. 56, out of more than 200 schools rated.
The rankings are based on ratings by peer institutions, student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, and admissions selectivity.
MUSC's online program offers a Master of Science in nursing, a Doctor of Nursing Practice and a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing degree. More than 250 students were enrolled in the fall of 2013, according to the school.
