Pianist replaced for CSO Masterworks concert
Pianist Andrew Armstrong has canceled his scheduled appearance as guest soloist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra for three Masterworks Series performances this week, citing illness.
The symphony quickly found a replacement: Di Wu.
Di Wu was a finalist in the 2009 Van Cliburn competition and has performed with some of the world's finest orchestras.
"She is a world-class artist, and we are blessed to have her fill in on two days notice," CSO Executive Director Michael Smith said.
The symphony did not want to alter the program, which features Rachmaninoff's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini," according to Yuriy Bekker, acting artistic director and concertmaster. Coincidentally, Di Wu performend the piece last year with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
The concerts Thursday, Friday and Saturday feature guest conductor and music director candidate Sean Newhouse.
