There's one yearly event in greater Charleston geared both to consumers eager to buy or fix up a home and to housing pros seeking updates on industry matters.
It's also known for holding a cooking display or other recreational activity to entertain attendees.
The show's most remarkable aspect, however, stems from its long run: The first expo took place way back in 1975 and it's continued unabated since then.
That's why organizers can feel comfortable using the name, "The Original Home Show." This year's fest will take place Jan. 10-12 at Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston. The Charleston Home Builders Association will host the expo, as it has for close to four decades.
"We are excited about the show and some new exhibitors that have been added," says Phillip Ford, executive vice president of the Charleston Home Builders Association.
"These vendors will feature boats, ATVs, RVs and golf carts. This will give the guys (and gals) something to look at while visiting," he says.
The Original Home Show not only enjoys a venerable history, the event also stands out as one of the first big residential promotions of 2014.
"We hope everyone will come out and visit the show," Ford says. "This is the largest show in the Lowcountry and features products and services for any price point. If you live in a $200,000 or a $2 million house, this show has something for you."
Next weekend's fest will showcase more than 70 presenters and a half-dozen sponsors. Homeowners Mortgage, a full service home-loan banking company with an office in Mount Pleasant, will be presenting sponsor.
The show also will promote three special events. They're comprised of Palmetto Outdoor Kitchen Pavilion, in which cooking specialists daily whip up Lowcountry dishes; South Carolina Master Gardener, whereby plant and flower experts offer tips and analyze soil samples; and special flood insurance presentations from Lisa S. Jones, a certified floodplain manager and Associate in National Flood Insurance with Carolina Flood Solutions LLC.
"One of our big issues facing homeowners is flood insurance," Ford says. "On Saturday we will have two classes for consumers to educate them on this issue."
A sign of the show's long-time interest revolves around the sizable participation from local businesses.
Along with "presenting sponsor" Homeowners Mortgage, Home Show "sponsors" consist of Palmetto Surfacing, Carolina Lanterns, Muhler Co., Service Master Clean of Charleston and Charleston Style & Design magazine.
