Charleston's annual Emancipation Proclamation parade will take place New Year's Day.
The event will start 11 a.m. at Burke High School and will proceed to King Street by way of Fishburne Street, Ashley Avenue and Sumter Street. The route will then turn south onto King to Calhoun Street and will end at Emmanuel AME Church at 110 Calhoun Street.
A service will follow at Greater St. Luke AME Church at 78 Gordon St.
In addition, the Tri-County Emancipation Proclamation Convocation 2014 will take place on New Year's Day on the Grounds of Wesley United Methodist Church, 1008 Sugar Hill Road, Moncks Corner.
The event, held 11:07 a.m. to 2:07 p.m., will include reflections, drum lines from local high schools, in addition to encouragement and words of power for the New Year, according to organizers.
