A driver was arrested after hitting and killing a woman on Dorchester Road on Monday night.
The woman was standing on the edge of Dorchester Road near the CVS pharmacy when a Buick LeSabre hit her around 7 p.m., North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. The driver's name was not immediately released. He was charged as a habitual offender driving under suspension, and more charges will be filed, Pryor said.
The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition where she later died.
Westbound traffic on Dorchester Road near Ashley Phosphate was rerouted while emergency vehicles responded.
