Busy year of culinary events
Charleston this year served as a sanctuary for newsmakers in the culinary world, hosting a series of events that drew the nation's top chefs - and the attention of the world's eaters.
A year crammed with food happenings began in March with the announcement of James Beard Foundation award nominees at Lowndes Grove Plantation (2012 event location: Las Vegas). In June, Bon Appetit editors dropped by town to lead a Grub Crawl dining tour (2012 event locations: Brooklyn, Los Angeles and New Orleans).
While event organizers smartly avoided scheduling many summertime activities, a busy fall started with Cook It Raw, a global gathering of the planet's most celebrated avant-garde chefs (2012 event location: Suwalki, Poland).
The season continued with a national summit of Chefs Collaborative, a network of chefs, writers and activists at the forefront of the sustainable food movement (2012 event location: Seattle), and StarChefs.com's Rising Stars gala, featuring talented young culinary professionals from across the Carolinas.
