Christmas may be over, but the holiday shopping season hasn't puttered out just yet.
Retailers want to get rid of their holiday merchandise while consumers are still in the shopping mood, so there are an abundance of deals to take advantage of this week.
In fact, prices in the wake of the holidays are often lower than they were during Black Friday.
Here's an idea of what you can find on sale over the next few weeks:
After Christmas is one of my favorite times to shop for winter clothes. Both national and local retailers will be moving apparel to the sale racks and even offering extra discounts on already-marked-down goods.
Palmetto Moon, Copper Penny and Belk typically have 30 percent to 60 percent off sales on clothes after Christmas. Gwynn's of Mount Pleasant has a winter clearance sale of 30 percent to 70 percent off merchandise throughout the store.
You also can find good deals on fitness apparel after Christmas because retailers know that many people will sign up for gym memberships in January.
Small decorative items such as picture frames and candles are ideal for gift-giving, which is why you'll find plenty of them in the sale sections after the holidays. Marshall's and TJ Maxx tend to have some of the best deals on home goods around this time of year. Last year, I found a copper framed wall mirror on clearance for $5 at Marshall's the day after Christmas.
It may not be any fun to shop for things you can't use for another year, but it's best to shop for holiday decorations and wrapping paper after the holidays when they're marked down as much as 80 percent off.
Coastal Cupboard will have a progressive sale on all Christmas items this weekend. All holiday merchandise is 50 percent off today and 60 percent off Saturday.
You also can expect to find big markdowns on Christmas decor at J.C. Penney, Walmart and Big Lots.
