Greta is 9 and lives with her grandparents in a low-income area of North Charleston. She does not know her father, and her grandparents took her in because her mother's lifestyle was not conducive to raising a child.

Money is limited in this home, but love is not. Greta's grandparents want to give her all of the advantages in life that they can. Unfortunately, their meager income prevents them from doing as much as they would like and they are worried about providing for Greta this Christmas.

Your generous contribution can help a local agency give Greta a holiday to remember with some new clothes, a traditional Christmas dinner and a few toys from her wish list.

Donations to The Post and Courier's Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927. The six charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are Carolina Youth Development Center, Lowcountry Food Bank, Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, Association for the Blind and Coastal Catholic Charities. Every cent of the money raised goes directly to the agencies as there are no administrative costs involved.

Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. Donations also may be made in person or online at

To be listed in the paper by Christmas Day, contributions must be received in our office by noon on Monday, Dec. 23.
