According to a union local's website, rank and file members of Local 63 of the International Association of Machinists will vote Jan. 3 on the Boeing Company's offer to extend the contract to build the 777X jet at the company's Everett, Washington plant.
A statement posted at the website of IAM/Woodworkers District 24 Lodge says Boeing Portland IAM members will vote on the "latest last, best and final offer from The Boeing Company after the holiday break." It says a letter from International President R. Thomas Buffenbarger explaining the terms of the offer in greater detail will be mailed to members.
According to a story in The Seattle Times, the call for a vote is coming from the union's national leadership and against the recommendations of some local union leaders, who last week urged that the contract be rejected.
