Man, 76, accused of running illegal gambling machines in Charleston
Charleston police on Wednesday arrested a 76-year-old man accused of running illegal gambling devices downtown.
Bennie Gardner, of Priestly Street, is charged with operating a gambling establishment, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said. Gardner owns Mr. B's Lounge on Line Street, Francis said.
Members of Charleston Police Department's Special Investigations Unit, Team One Power Squad and State Law Enforcement Division agents conducted a search warrant at the business on Wednesday. Authorities found 14 illegal gambling devices and about $5,000 in cash, Francis said.
Gardner is scheduled to appear in Charleston Municipal Court on Jan. 13, Francis said.
The case remains under investigation, he said.
