Clemson's Sammy Watkins and South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney were named first-team All-Americans by the American Football Coaches Association.
Watkins became the first football player in Clemson history to be named a first-team All-American by at least one service in three different years.
Clowney joined Warren Muir (1969 and '69) and George Rogers (1979 and '80) as the only Gamecocks to earn first-team All-America honors twice in their careers.
Alabama's AJ McCarron got the first-team nod at quarterback over Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston.
The Citadel's Darien Robinson was named as one of two fullbacks on The Sports Network FCS All-America second team.
Robinson, who wrapped up his stellar Citadel career in 2013, rushed for 966 yards and seven touchdowns during his senior season, falling 34 shy of posting consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns. His average of 80.5 yards per game was sixth in the Southern Conference.
South Carolina signed junior college defensive tackle Abu Lamin to a national letter of intent.Lamin is a 6-5, 310-pounder from Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College He racked up 34 tackles in 2013 with 7.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in nine games for the 2-7 Greyhounds. He also forced one fumble.
Lamin is considered a four-star prospect, the No. 18 junior college prospect in the country and the No. 6 JUCO defensive tackle, according to 247Sports.com. Rivals.com lists him as a four-star prospect and the No. 19 junior college player.
Lamin selected South Carolina over offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Nebraska and Tennessee, among others.
Most valuable team
Forbes magazine rates Texas as the most valuable college football team in the country for the fifth straight year.
The magazine values the Longhorns at $139 million, almost 20 percent more than Notre Dame at No. 2. The Irish are valued at $117 million.
Alabama rose from sixth to third at $110 million, followed by LSU, Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Ohio State and Nebraska. South Carolina was 18th, while Clemson was out of the top 20. Only the top 20 were ranked.
Fight Hunger Bowl
The Fight Hunger Bowl will make history with two female officials this year. The game between BYU and Washington on Dec. 27 in San Francisco will be called by a crew from Conference USA that includes Sarah Thomas as line judge and Maia Chaka as head linesman.
