BLUFFTON, S.C. -- The high price of copper has had thieves targeting air conditioners in recent years and now, at least in one South Carolina community, they have a new target -- copper landscaping lights.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that since early November, thieves have struck seven times in the Palmetto Bluff community in Bluffton.
Bluffton police say the thieves have ripped copper lights out of the ground and cut the electrical wiring.
Police say almost $7,000 worth of landscape lighting has been taken.
The investigation is continuing.
