Mary is a blind single parent with two children. She lives in a cramped apartment with her sighted sister and her sister's two children. They share expenses but they struggle to make ends meet. They are doing the best they can under very difficult circumstances.

Mary, who has an associate degree in catering, is unemployed, but attends classes for the visually impaired at a local agency. Mary enjoys cooking and decorating, and would like to have her own catering business someday. For now, though, she's having a tough time keeping her children fed and clothed, not to mention the fact that she can't provide much in the way of a Christmas celebration this year.

Your generous contribution to the Good Cheer Fund will help Mary provide winter coats for her children as well as a nutritious holiday dinner and a few Christmas gifts.

Donations to The Post and Courier's Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927. The six charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are Carolina Youth Development Center, Lowcountry Food Bank, Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, Association for the Blind and Coastal Catholic Charities. Every cent of the money raised goes directly to the agencies as there are no administrative costs involved.

Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. Donations also may be made in person or online at
