The South Carolina Highway Patrol is asking for help finding a driver that left the scene after a fatal wreck last week.
The rider who was killed was retired Army Lt. Col James Michael Ball, 51, of Summerville, according to the Dorchester County Coroner's Office.
Ball, known as Chigger, worked for Sotera Defense Solutions in North Charleston and left behind a wife and four children, according to his obituary from Stuhr Funeral Home.
According to the Highway Patrol, a car was traveling east on Dorchester Road around 6:25 a.m. Dec. 10 at when it cut off a motorcycle. The bike and car did not touch, but the bike turned over and the rider was thrown off. The rider was not wearing a helmet, according to officers. He was taken to Medical University Hospital and died Dec. 13.
The car kept going after the wreck. It's described as an older model silver or gray station wagon, possible a Chevrolet or Volvo. Anyone with information is asked to call the Highway Patrol at 953-6010 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
