Two houses in North Charleston were hit by bullets Monday morning, according to police.

Officers responding to reports of shots fired on Woodlawn Avenue found holes in the sides of 2625 and 2627 Woodlawn, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. The projectiles did not penetrate to the interior of either residence, he said.

Several vehicles were seen fleeing the area, Pryor said.

Nearby Burns Elementary School was placed on administrative lockdown while officers investigated, district spokesman Jason Sakran said. The lockdown was lifted by 2 p.m.
