Lucy, 56, works hard to make a living as a parking lot attendant and is in the public eye on a daily basis. Unfortunately, she has had to have a number of teeth extracted and is acutely embarrassed about her current dental appearance. In addition, her dental problems have caused significant difficulty with her ability to eat.

Your generous donation to The Post and Courier's Good Cheer Fund will allow a local agency to provide Lucy with a full set of dentures so that, as she says, "I will be able to eat and smile with confidence."

Contributions to The Post and Courier's Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927. The six charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are the Lowcountry Food Bank, the Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, the Association for the Blind, Coastal Catholic Charities and Carolina Youth Development Center. Every cent of the money goes directly to the agencies, as there are no administrative costs involved.

It is with pleasure that we acknowledge a $5,000 donation today from the Employee Advised Fund of the Daniel Island Company. The fund, administered by the Daniel Island Community Foundation, is an employee charitable contribution program funded through voluntary payroll deductions. Employees of the Daniel Island Company, Daniel Island Real Estate, Daniel Island Club and the Daniel Island Property Owners Association contribute to the fund, and the Daniel Island Company matches these contributions dollar for dollar. We greatly appreciate their generous donation.

Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. Donations also may be made in person or online at
