Charleston police have arrested two suspects in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man Wednesday night in West Ashley.
Valentino Hayward, 23, of Evergreen Street is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, police spokesman Charles Francis said.
Anisah Pearson, 20, of Sequoia Street is charged with accessory after the fact of murder, Francis said.
Hayward and Pearson are being held in the Cannon Detention Center, where they are scheduled to have a bond hearing at 2 p.m. Friday.
The victim in the shooting has been identified as Deontre Miles of Moncks Corner, according to the Charleston County Coroner's Office.
The shooting occurred about 8:50 p.m. behind 640 Sequoia St. The brick apartment building is located off Savannah Highway. Authorities have provided few details about what took place and have said nothing about a possible motive in the killing.
Officers were called to check on a report of shots fired and found a large crowd gathered around Miles, who was on the ground and did not appear to be breathing, according to the report.
Miles pleaded guilty in a Charleston County court to a marijuana possession charge in July, court records show. In 2008 he pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary, according to court records.
He died from a gunshot wound, according to the Coroner's Office. An autopsy had not yet been conducted Thursday afternoon.
