The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is holding a free jobs fair for veterans and military spouses in North Charleston this week.
The event, "Hiring Our Heroes - Charleston," includes more than 40 employers are expected to participate with positions available for veterans and military spouses of all ranks and levels of experience, officials said.
The event is schuled for Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the General Mark W. Clark National Guard Armory, 7220 Cross County Road, North Charleston.
Companies participating in the event include some of the nation's biggest employers, in addition to dozens of smaller firms from the region, organizers said.
The event will also include a free workshop that features one-on-one mentoring sessions on resume building, job search tools and interviewing techniques for all jobseekers.
Since Hiring Our Heroes began in March 2011, more than 1,200 companies have hired 21,600 veterans and military spouses as a result of more than 650 hiring fairs, officials said. In March 2012, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Chamber Foundation, and Capital One launched "Hiring 500,000 Heroes," a national campaign to urge the business community to hire half a million veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014.
So far, more than 1,000 businesses of all sizes have pledged to hire 343,000. To date, 236,000 hires have been confirmed toward this goal, organizers said.
