Charleston deputies looking for car that struck man, kept going early Sunday morning

Charleston County Sheriff's deputies are asking for help finding a vehicle that kept going after it struck and seriously wounded a man on Ashley River Road early Sunday.

Deputies responded to Ashley River Road about 3 a.m. after dispatchers received a call from a motorist who reported seeing a man lying on the right side of the northbound shouler near Plainview Drive, Maj. Eric Watson said.

The man was taken to the Medical University Hospital with life-threatening injuries, he said.

Investigators say the man was struck by a vehicle while walking on Ashley River Road between Plainview Drive and Parsonage Road.

The vehicle is described as an early model black Dodge Charger or Challenger with possible front end damage. It was traveling southbound on Ashley River Road, Watson said.
