Charleston County sheriff's deputies on Thursday arrested a Ravenel man accused of shooting another man in the shoulder for hitting on his girlfriend.

Corey Frederick Matthews, 50, of Ellington School Road is charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the shooting. Matthews was served an additional warrant for petty larceny, accused of stealing a woman's television in 2006, sheriff's deputies said.

According to an incident report, Matthews was arrested following a shooting that happened around midnight Thursday at a Hollywood home on Erika Place.

Deputies arrived at the home and found a man bleeding from a gunshot wound to his shoulder, the report stated. The wounded man told deputies that Matthews shot him with a sawed-off shotgun.

Matthews alleged that the man wouldn't leave his girlfriend alone, deputies said. Several witnesses saw the men arguing shortly before the shooting occurred, the report states.

Paramedics transported the wounded man to Medical University Hospital for treatment. Matthews is being held at the Charleston County jail in lieu of a $150,000 bail, jail records show.
