A Ravenel man is accused of shooting an acquaintance over a woman, according to Charleston County Sheriff’s officials.

Corey Matthews, 50, of Ellington School Road, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Investigators said Matthews shot 50-year-old Michael Gabe early Thursday at a home on Erika Place in Hollywood.

When deputies arrived, Gabe told them Matthews had shot him with a sawed-off shotgun over an argument they had earlier in the day about a female friend, an incident report stated.

Matthews told deputies Gabe had tried to “pick up on his girlfriend and wouldn’t leave her alone,” the report stated.

Gabe sustained wounds to his upper chest and shoulder area and was hospitalized, authorities said.

Matthews and Gabe have known each other for several years, according to deputies.
